Cartwright Rooms and Opperman LL19

The information on this page is for room reservations in the library (other than LL19). To reserve a room in Cartwright Hall or Opperman LL19, please submit a request via Virtual EMS. (See note on creating an account.) Questions can be directed to Lori Richman (lori.richman@drake.edu) or Emily Fleming (emily.fleming@drake.edu).

Request a Room Reservation in the Library (Excludes LL19)

Rooms in the Law Library may be reserved by law faculty, law staff, officially recognized law school student organizations, and law students who need a room for 1) a class assignment requiring them to create a videorecording, 2) a virtual meeting, or 3) their work as a T.A. or writing fellow. Officers of the local chapter of the National Bar Association may reserve the NBA Archives room for meetings of that organization except during the final four weeks of the semester when students are preparing for exams. Members of the Drake Law Library Association may also request access to a Law Library conference room, subject to availability, by calling 515-271-3189 during business hours at least 24 hours in advance.

To request a room reservation, send an email at least one business day in advance to law-circulation@drake.edu. Note the following:

  • name of your event/group or class it is for
  • when you want the room (date, start time, end time),
  • how many will be in attendance
  • If you need a room for a virtual meeting (e.g., Zoom), please indicate that and request room LL04. You will need to provide your own device, equipped with camera and mike.
  • If you need the room to make a recording, please indicate that and request Room 269. You will also need to contact Kristi Longtin or Emily Fleming to schedule the recording/podcast to capture. Contact Kristi if your faculty member is an adjunct or has an office in the Jeffrey Lamberti Faculty Office Bay (East Bay). Contact Emily if your faculty member teaches Legal Writing or has an office in the Roxanne Barton Conlin Faculty Office Bay (West Bay). Office information is included in the Law School Faculty Directory.

Please be aware that when you reserve space, you

  • still need to follow all university and library policies, including the library food and drink policy.
  • must notify Public Safety if you have a political figure or other VIP attending your meeting.
  • must leave the space in as good or better a condition than you found it.

If a room is not reserved, patrons may walk in and use the room on a modified first-come, first-served basis, with law students having priority over other patrons.

Reservable Rooms

The conference room links in the next paragraph include photos and information about available equipment.

8 conference rooms are available:

First floor (175 and 177)    Second floor (267, 268, 269)     Lower level (LL15 and LL16)

In addition, 282 (Selvy) and 261 are sometimes used for classes and can be reserved by contacting Law Library staff.

LL19, the large classroom in the library's lower level, is booked through Cartwright; request through the EMS Web app to reserve.

Study rooms are typically not reserved but law students may request a five-hour checkout at the Information Desk. The Study Lounges--261A and 262 & 263 (Sulzbach Study Lounges)--are also not able to be reserved, but reservations may be considered on a case-by-case basis by Law Library staff.

Equipment note: The room descriptions indicate equipment permanently installed in each room. You are responsible for obtaining, setting up, and using any other equipment needed for your meeting.
