Clark Decision: Celebrating 150 Years of Iowa School Desegregation: Iowa Courts Civil Rights Timeline

Iowa State Flag

"Our liberties we prize, and our rights we will maintain."

The first legislature of the state of Iowa developed the state motto, quoted above. It appears on the state seal, created in 1847, and the state flag, adopted in 1921. The Iowa courts have a rich tradition of protecting these ideals of liberty and equal rights.
