COVID-19 Updates for Law School

Campus Access Requirements

Before coming to campus, all faculty, staff, students, and visitors should check to make sure they do not have a temperature and must be symptom free. If you feel unwell, please stay home.

Everyone is required to wear a mask or face covering while in campus buildings and outdoor settings where safe social distancing is not possible. This includes University sponsored events, regardless of location or setting.

Drake has released a comprehensive FAQ that will answer most questions about the fall semester COVID plan, including testing, reporting, social distancing, etc. The University information indicates that students who test positive for COVID-19 should report that to the Dean of Students for the University, and gives that link. Note that Law students may also report directly to Dean Lee Schneider at erin.schneider@drake.edu.

Please make sure you allow for proper social distancing by only sitting in on-restricted seating (and not moving seating) and following the one-way passage routes

Law School Building Access

Cartwright and Opperman are open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. With your ID, you will have access to those buildings from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day.  You will need to have your ID to access the Law Library at any time because we want to limit access to law students/faculty/staff.  The Neal and Bea Smith Law Center (the clinic) will be closed to the public, so will also require ID to access.

Parking Lot Wi-Fi

If you do not want to come into the buildings to access Wi-Fi you may still be able to access Eduroam from parking near Drake buildings.

The following areas provided access when tested (but strength may vary) and there may be others:

Legal Clinic – in area on south side (center near building) and street parking on east side

Dial Center – parking spots north of building and street parking on east side

Olmsted Lot – east side parking spots near Morehouse (weaker signal on Aliber side)

Human Resources (3206 University) – in back in 30-minute parking spot next to building

Des Moines Public Libraries also have Wi-Fi available from parking spaces nearest the building.
