Who cited this article?

If you find a highly relevant source, particularly one that was not published in the last year or so, seeing who else has cited it can be a good way to identify other research sources.

Below are some of the tools that can help you identify citing sources.

Notes:

The tool will only work if your starting article is included in that database.
Moreover, each tool can only identify citations included in its database, so you will likely get different results with each option. There may be a great deal of overlap or just a bit of overlap.
Not every citing articles will be useful. The citing source may reference your article for reasons that are not of interest to you.

Google Scholar
Allows you to search against the scholarly literature of a wide variety of disciplines. It includes sources such as articles, working papers, theses, books, abstracts, and court opinions. Click on more to see how Drake library holdings and Google Scholar records can be linked.

If you’re on campus, Google Scholar should automatically show you “Full Text @ Drake” links for our holdings. If you’re off campus, you can go into Google Scholar settings and select Drake University as one of your Library Links, which will set a cookie that will automatically show you the links no matter where you are.

After you click on settings at Google Scholar, click library links on the left and select Drake.

Remember that this will give you direct links to many things we have, but not everything. One of the biggest sources that will be missing is Lexis. If you find a cite that is not linked, feel free to ask a librarian if we have it in full text.
HeinOnline ScholarCheck
ScholarCheck data is integrated throughout HeinOnline. It lets you see the articles and cases (available in HeinOnline) that have cited the article you are viewing, as well as how many times it has been downloaded in the past twelve months.
Lexis (Shepard's)
There are options to see the Shepard's report in both Lexis and Nexis Uni. For more information, see these Lexis training materials.

The electronic interface for the Science Citation Index and BIOSIS. See these detailed resources and tutorials for using Web of Science.

Westlaw KeyCite
When you have a particular article open, you can hover over the "Citing References" link to see how many sources of different types cited the article, as pictured below. Clicking on "Citing References" will bring up the full, linked list of citations.
SuperSearch
SuperSearch does not always offer a link to citing sources, but you can find it for some results. Read more about how this works.
