Journal and Law Review students can be set up with proxy authorization that will allow them to check out Cowles materials to their respective publication.
Setup
Each EIC should email Karen and provide the list of names* of
* Note that each person needs to be set up individually, so please try to keep the number of proxies to no more than five.
Checkout & Return Process
When an authorized proxy goes to Cowles to check out, bring your ID and the materials to be checked out to their circulation desk. Indicate you are checking out as a proxy for Drake Law Review or Drake Journal of Ag Law. Cowles staff will ask for your name and check out to you if you are listed as an approved proxy.
The checkout should be listed under Law Review or Journal, and an email will be sent to the generic publication address. If you, the proxy, receive an email in your personal inbox for the item(s) just checked out, please forward the email to Karen, noting the publication to which the item(s) should actually be checked out, so she can transfer the checkout to the right account.
Please return items checked out from the Cowles Library directly to the Cowles Library.
Checking out to a Proxy does not happen commonly. If the Cowles staff do not know how to do it, these are the instructions:
Then there will be another screen, where the library staff member will make sure the right entity appears in the "Proxy for" box. They can use that drop-down arrow to change if necessary. Then click Go and check out as usual.
If there is a problem and the item is checked out to you instead of the publication account, you should get an email checkout receipt sent directly to you. (It is standard practice at Cowles to always send a checkout email.) If that happens, you can forward it to me and ask that the loans be taken off your account and moved to Law Review or Journal.
Clearly, this is not the preferred practice, but it is the recommended workaround if the proxy checkout at Cowles is unsuccessful.
