Using the Guide

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for formatting your brief for Legal Writing II.

Prof. Karen Wallace will demonstrate the process and answer questions on

Tuesday, February 18, 11:35-12:20, in Cartwright 206 Panopto link

OR

Thursday, February 20, 11:35-12:20, in Cartwright 206 Panopto link

  • See your syllabus or professor to find out which session to attend.
  • Please sign your legal writing professor's attendance sheet at the session.
  • Please bring your laptop. Be prepared to use Microsoft Word. Don't have Microsoft Word? See the ITS instructions on how to download and install Microsoft Office/365 Apps software for free. Contact ITS if you need help with the download.

Miss the session? The recordings have been made available on Panopto; see links above. (Should be open access, but let me know if you have problems.)

TIPS:

  • For these formatting steps, always use the Microsoft Word desktop app, not the Word Online version. The app opens as a separate application. The online version opens as a tab in your default Internet browser.
  • Save frequently as you work and back up your brief somewhere besides your computer. We recommend Drake OneDrive or another stable cloud location. As you reach critical milestones, you could also email a copy to yourself or save to a flash drive.
