One part about study aids that students like are the summaries of cases. But study aids aren't the only source for case summaries--Lexis+ AI can also be used to generate summaries of cases.
Using AI to summarize a case cannot replace reading the case in full and creating your own summary when preparing for class. AI summaries are high-level overviews that can be helpful when studying for an exam or testing your own knowledge of a case before class.
First, log into Lexis+ and navigate to the AI assistant.
Second, create a new conversation with the AI and choose "Ask a legal question". (The law librarians tested the "Summarize a case" tool and found that the "Ask a legal question" actually produced better case summaries.)
Third, type in your prompt, including the case citation you want the AI to summarize, into the prompt box. For this example, we typed, "Explain the case Palsgraf v. Long Island Railroad to a first year law student." Click enter to have the AI find the case and generate its summary.
